Best online casinos in Alberta (2026)

Updated 6 October 2026 · How we score · 18+ and in Alberta only

Alberta’s legal online casino market opened on 13 July 2026, and around 50 operators are now registered with Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC). That’s a lot of new names at once. We’ve narrowed it down to the five we’d recommend, scored on games, payouts, mobile and support. Every one is on the AGLC register.

How online casinos work in Alberta

Until July 2026, the only legal online casino in Alberta was the province’s own site, PlayAlberta. Private operators can now offer casino games if they register with the AGLC, which sets the rules, and sign an agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation, which runs the commercial side. Twenty-two sites went live on launch day, including BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel and theScore Bet, and more have followed since.

To play, you must be 18 or older and physically in Alberta. Licensed casinos check your location when you log in and verify your identity before your first withdrawal. Every site must offer deposit limits, time limits and access to the AGLC’s self-exclusion program, which covers all licensed sites at once. Read more in our guide to Alberta’s online casino market.

How to check a casino is licensed in Alberta

  1. Open the AGLC’s iGaming pages and find the list of registered operators.
  2. Find the casino’s name and check that the web address matches the one you’re on. Licensed brands usually run a separate Alberta version of their site.
  3. Look for the AGLC registration in the site’s footer.

If a casino isn’t registered, it isn’t legal in Alberta, however long it has been advertising to Albertans. Step-by-step help in our licence-check guide.

Payment methods at Alberta casinos

Interac e-Transfer is the most widely accepted method and usually the quickest way to get paid. Visa and Mastercard debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, and some casinos also take PayPal, iDebit or online banking. All amounts are in Canadian dollars. Your first withdrawal takes longer because the casino has to verify your ID. That’s a legal requirement, not a stalling tactic.

Why you won’t see bonuses here

We don’t publish bonus offers. They change often, the conditions attached to them matter more than the headline number, and a bonus is a poor reason to choose a casino. Licensed casinos show their current promotions, with full terms, after you log in.

Alberta online casino FAQ

Are online casinos legal in Alberta?

Yes, since 13 July 2026, at sites registered with the AGLC. Offshore sites that aren’t registered are not legal and offer none of the protections.

What is the legal age for online casinos in Alberta?

18. Licensed casinos verify your age and identity before you can withdraw.

Can I use my Ontario casino account in Alberta?

Usually not. Each province is a separate licensed market, so most brands ask you to open an Alberta account. You must be physically in Alberta to play there. See our best Ontario casinos if you’re in Ontario.

Are online casino winnings taxed in Alberta?

For recreational players, gambling winnings are generally not taxed in Canada. If gambling is your business, different rules may apply, so ask a tax professional.

Is PlayAlberta still available?

Yes. The province’s own site still operates alongside the private casinos.

Set a limit before you play. Gambling should be entertainment, not a way to make money. Alberta’s Addiction Helpline is free, confidential and open 24/7: 1-866-332-2322.
